Bibimbap in Hong Kong: Where to Enjoy The Classic Seoul Dish

The quirkily named Bibimbap, Korean style of eating is a recent trend, but its roots go back further. It used to be known as, ‘goldongban’ which is essentially a rice dish with mixed in leftovers that used to be eaten in the approach to the new year lunar moon, as a way of clearing out the old energy and food.

Often enriched with an egg, it was a fun way of eating that carried over into the 20th century when it was renamed, after Japanese traders to Korea influenced the name. Now a popular, casual way of eating, it centres around rice with mixed vegetables, sometimes sauce, or raw egg, and often topped with meat or fish. If you’re new to this style of eating, take a look below to see the best restaurants in Hong Kong!
